Kurt Cobain pudo haber ganado importancia como uno de los creadores del grunge con Nirvana con su debut de 1989, Bleach, pero él estaba jugando con un otro tipo de conjunto de sonido en 1988.
Dangerous Minds recientemente desenterraron un «mixtape» de Cobain juntos un año antes del lanzamiento de Bleach con un «Mixtape» que mezcla collage de ruidos, sonidos y fragmentos compilados de la colección extensa de Cobain, la radio, y otras fuentes. A lo largo de la grabación de más de 15 minutos llamado «Montage of Heck«, se puede escuchar los clips de canciones como «ABC» de los Jackson Five, «Hot Pants» de James Brown, e incluso la interpretación de William Shatner para «Wild Thing«. Pero también encontrarás cosas de Jimi Hendrix hablando en el Monterey Pop Festival, y Pedro Picapiedra gritando con su bola de boliche.
La mixtape fue creado por una grabadora de cuatro pistas, la extraña mezcla involucró un álbum de fotos en la mente de un joven de 21 años de edad. Y como sañala Dangerous, lo hizo todo sin acceso a YouTube o Spotify y similares.
