Este año marca el 50 aniversario del noveno LP homónimo de The Beatles, también conocido como The White Album. Para conmemorar este hito, los miembros sobrevivientes de la banda lanzarán una reedición de lujo del álbum el 9 de noviembre a través de sus propios Apple Corps Ltd. y Capitol / UMe.
Para la reedición, las 30 canciones del álbum han sido mezcladas por el productor Giles Martin y el ingeniero Sam Okell en estéreo y sonido envolvente 5.1, directamente de las cintas de sesión originales de cuatro pistas y ocho pistas. Esta nueva mezcla se complementa con 27 demos acústicos tempranas y 50 tomas de sesión, la mayoría de las cuales no se han lanzado anteriormente en ninguna forma.
La música se distribuye en siete discos, alojados en un libro de tapas rígidas de 164 páginas y presenta reproducciones desplegables de cuatro fotografías en color brillante del primer álbum de John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison y Ringo Starr, también nuevas. Presentaciones escritas por McCartney y Martin, fotografías raramente vistas, anotaciones de seguimiento por pista y más.
Además de la caja súper deluxe de siete discos, la reedición también se lanzará como un juego de lujo de tres CD; un juego de vinilo de lujo de cuatro LP; un juego de vinilo estándar de dos LP; y digitalmente.
