Paul McCartney ha revelado las 154 canciones detalladas en su libro que abarca toda su carrera, The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, que saldrá el 2 de noviembre. Consulte la lista completa a continuación.
Un aspecto destacado de la colección de dos volúmenes es la letra manuscrita de una canción de los Beatles no grabada, «Tell Me Who He Is«. Las letras nunca antes vistas fueron desenterradas de un cuaderno que se cree que data de principios de la década de 1960.
La letra incluye canciones del trabajo en solitario de McCartney y años en los Beatles y Wings, como «Blackbird«, «Live and Let Die«, «Hey Jude«, «Band on the Run» y «Yesterday«. La colección contiene letras escritas a mano junto con fotos, borradores y dibujos inéditos. Cada canción incluye comentarios de McCartney sobre su proceso creativo.
En el prólogo de la antología, McCartney explicó por qué decidió compartir sus cuadernos de letras. El escribio:
“Con más frecuencia de las que puedo contar, me han preguntado si escribiría una autobiografía, pero nunca ha sido el momento adecuado. Lo único que siempre me las he arreglado para hacer, ya sea en casa o de viaje, es escribir canciones nuevas. Sé que a algunas personas, cuando llegan a cierta edad, les gusta ir a un diario para recordar los acontecimientos del día a día del pasado, pero yo no tengo esos cuadernos. Lo que sí tengo son mis canciones, cientos de ellas, que he aprendido que tienen el mismo propósito. Y estas canciones abarcan toda mi vida«.
Como se reveló cuando The Lyrics se anunció por primera vez en febrero, McCartney colaboró con el poeta Paul Muldoon, ganador del premio Pulitzer, durante un período de cinco años para darle vida al libro. En una declaración, Muldoon conjeturó que «estos comentarios son lo más parecido a una autobiografía que podamos llegar«.
Para acompañar el lanzamiento del libro, la Biblioteca Británica albergará una exhibición gratuita titulada Paul McCartney: The Lyrics desde el 5 de noviembre de 2021 hasta el 13 de marzo de 2022. Contará con letras inéditas del archivo personal de McCartney, así como fotografías que abarcan su carrera.
